I was envisioning the ship being used in the scout role.
(S8.315) Players may adapt the “flexible group” rules from F&E(515.0). These can be summarized as follows: Carriers are dividedinto three types (size class 2, size class 3, and size class 4). Sizeclass 2 carriers must have three escorts and can have four. Sizeclass 3 carriers must have two escorts and can have three. Size class4 carriers must have one escort and can have two. At least oneescort must be size class 4, but otherwise, players may select anyescorts available in the selected year so long as they are of the sameempire. Non-carrier escorts cannot be used as carrier escorts in SFB. (S8.316) Most survey ships are listed in their rules as sometimescarrying fighters. Players who take a survey ship as their allowedscout may equip it with some or all of the allowed fighters [see limit in(S8.32)]. Fast carriers operated without escorts while on deep raids. Iffast carriers appear as the sole ships they need not have escorts, butthey must be accompanied by their assigned escorts as any othercarrier if appearing as part of a larger force. Fast carriers may, butare not required to, be accompanied by fast escorts if defined asbeing on a raid behind enemy lines. Fast carriers are currently limitedto the Federation DVL and CVF; fast escorts are limited to theFederation FXE.

Matt, that means the Gorn SRVF w/g18s is not allowed (did not bring the escort) at the scenario Refugee Flight 144.
The Paravian DW "Snow" will now defend the shuttles going to the planet  vs  the Gorn BDL . David (Gorn Dino-Mites) I am in Australia, what time can you play this scenario, unless you are going to disengage ?

Does not require escorts.   (BDA or None) are the listed escorts.
   Y177-Y178 BDA or None 6xG-18 or 6xG-20 or 3xG-101B

The campaign is using the "Flexible Carrier Escorts" rule of (S8.315). Thus, anything that is a true carrier must have escorts and they must be in accordance with (S8.315). Thus, an SRV (as a classification - there may be exceptions) requires escorts. This is true for Police Carriers (PVs), Aux Carriers (if they were allowed in the campaign), Space Control Ships, and the more typical CVs. The only case where a presumed carrier does not need escorts is "Fast" carriers working alone (S8.316).
