The game takes place in the era of the PFs. PFs are analogous to the 
"PT" boats of WWII <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PT_boat>, where a 
small, fast, lightly armored craft with a crew of 3-5 could rush an 
enemy fleet and unload up to four ship-killing torpedoes. American PT 
boats turned the tide of more than one sea-battle in the Pacific.

The PT designation stands for "Patrol Torpedo". Hence the name of the game.
